For the 128th episode of Start The Beat I sat down with Dennis Childers and Steve Sciulli of the band Carsickness. For those of you who don't know, Carsickness was an Art Punk/No Wave band from Pittsburgh who primarily existed from 1979-1982 and are considered to be one of the most influential bands to emerge from the prolific Pittsburgh Punk scene of the late 1970s.
Dennis from Carsickness is also
one of the curators for the Non-Punk Pittsburgh exhibit currently
showing at the Space gallery on Liberty Ave in Downtown PGH which
is a retrospective of the
music and arts during the fall of the industrial revolution that
opened the door for the vibrant arts community Pittsburgh has
today.
I
talk with Dennis and Steve about what the music scene was like in
Pittsburgh during the late 70’s/early 80’s and compare it a bit to
how things are today. Even after Carsickness, Dennis & Steve have
both continued to write music and play in bands together throughout
the years and are still at it today!
At
Get Hip Records, we just re-released some of the original
Carsickness material, re-mastered on Vinyl & CD and they are
hosting a release party for it on April 21st at the Non-Punk
Pittsburgh event. They will be performing together live for the
first time in a long time alongside The Full Counts & The Nox Boys.
It’s a FREE event. Be There if you can!
Sit
back, relax and let's START THE BEAT!
